Conceptual Renderings of the Resort
Some Squamish residents have asked what the resort will look like, particularly from Squamish.
At this point, these are just conceptual renderings, and can be changed with community input or based on design revisions.
The Resort will be built in phases at about 5 year intervals. Adding new phases is tied to metrics and the resort cannot proceed to the next phase until the previous phase meets targets (hotel occupancy, day visits etc.) that prove that it is a successful resort in that phase. If Phase 1 is completed in 2025, it would be about the size of Cypress. Phase 2 could be completed in 2030, Phase 3 in 2035, and potentially Phase 4 in 2040. Phase 1 & 2 are more to the north, and Phases 3 & 4 are more to the south, and use more south facing slopes, so they would be more visible when they are built. It is completely viable and feasible that the resort may find its optimal size after Phase 2 or 3. The province will only approve new phases when the previous phase is proven to be successful.
These renderings are meant to show where key infrastructure and buildings are planned for now. Obviously, the ski runs would be green in summer, and most of the mountain would be covered in snow in the winter.
As pointed out, these are conceptual renderings right now. We look forward to community input on the visual impact. We know from our current conversations that some people think being able to see ski/mountain biking runs from Squamish, including at night ( a desire for night skiing was a top priority in our recent community survey) would be amazing. Others want minimal visual impact from Squamish.
Visual impact can be addressed through “dark skies” policies, and through building colours, placement and design.
